5 Days Mikumi Safari
Circuit Briefing
This program allows clients to visit wilderness areas in southern Tanzania; close to Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar. These wilderness areas are less congested as compared to northern Tanzania. It is a perfect circuit for those who want to do safari off the beaten route and it is relatively cheaper than the north.
The proposed circuit offers a variety of activities ranging from photographic safari in 4*4 safari vehicle, walking/trekking and canoeing in the river.
Day 1: Dar es Salaam – Mikumi national park
The guide picks you from your lodge, airport or port and proceeds to Mikumi national park, 280 kilometers distance. The fifth biggest national park in the country has vast wild areas in which animals like elephants, giraffes, hippopotamuses, lions and hyenas. Cheetahs, wild dogs and leopards are present by rare to spot. Picnic lunch on arrival at the park before touring the park for the rest of the day. Overnight at a lodge within or on the periphery of the park, depending on the client’s choice. Meals: picnic lunch and dinner.
Day 2: Udzungwa Mountain national park
Today clients get a chance to stretch their muscles by a trek to the famous Sanje waterfalls in Udzungwa. The 170m waterfalls can be accessed by a 3 – 4 hours trekking. The route passes through the rainy forest and along the way one can sport birds and primates. The Sanje Mangabay is endemic to Udzungwa and it can be seen alongside Iringa red colobus monkeys among others. In the evening you drive back to Mikumi for overnight. Meals: breakfast, picnic lunch and dinner.
Day 3: Mikumi – Selous Game Reserve
Wake-up to an early breakfast then proceed into the wilderness for a morning safari in Mikumi national park. At around midday you will be transferred to Selous game reserve via Morogoro town. Upon arrival in Selous you will check in into you lodge for overnight in or on the periphery of the park. Meals: breakfast, picnic lunch and dinner.
Day 4: Selous Game Reserve
Spend the entire day exploring Tanzania’s largest national park. The vast area is home to the endangered wild dogs (painted wolves) and members of the “Big Five” except the Rhinoceros. Other African wild animals like hippopotamuses, hyenas, wildebeests, antelopes, greater kudu, elands and etc. are easily seen in this wilderness. Overnight at a lodge within or on the periphery of the park.
Day 5: Rufiji River
Canoeing in Rifiji River, one of the largest rivers in Tanzania. This activity is done in the morning to allow you to see sunrise from the river. You will then drive back to the lodge for breakfast and a short rest before driving back Dar es Salaam for a drop off at your lodge, port or airport.
